The Personal Ombudsman (PO) is a model for supported decision-making which is independent from all authorities. The Personal Ombudsman helps his/her client with a wide range of issues, ranging from family-matters to housing, accessing services or employment.
This site offers unique information about support for people with intellectual disabilities in decision-making. It upholds the practical implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Support models can be found categorised by type of support or by area of life. Inclusion Europe welcomes the submission of any new models of good practice.
TOPSIDE is an Inclusion Europe project aiming to develop peer support and peer training as a new component in informal adult education for people with intellectual disabilities. TOPSIDE developed a training curriculum for adult peer supporters that enables people with intellectual disabilities to formally train and provide support to their peers.
